The survey takes less than 10 min. to fill out and participants are entered into a raffle for $50 gift certificate to the UCI bookstore. If you are intersted in participating, you can access the survey at http://luci.ics.uci.edu/blog/archives/2007/11/uci_research_su.html.

    Gee..I guess I’m a dinosaur alumnus, ICS class of 1981.
    I don’t regularly use IM, mobile or otherwise,
    so I got a “You don’t qualify” exit from the survey
    after being invited by the Alumni email.
    Thanks, guys.

    the qualifications are:
    * over 18
    * use IM at least once a week on a mobile platform (laptop, phone, blackberry, etc.)

    No doubt those are the qualifications.
    But the email to Alumni said:

    ICS Research Survey on Instant Messaging
    The Nomatic*IM research group in the Laboratory for Ubiquitous Computing and Interaction is conducting a survey on Instant Messaging use. The survey takes no more than 10 min. and will help the researchers better understand the way that people manage interruptions and disclose their location. Interested? Visit the LUCI site.

    Here’s the link to the survey

    When I saw “mobile platform” I was thinking phones/PDAs and the like so I got disqualified since I don’t IM on my phone anymore.  But I do on my laptop a whole lot.

    Cool project!
